Taj Hotel, Cape Town,
Bombay Brasserie

TAJ Hotel Cape Town is a five-star luxury hotel located in the centre of the old city. Originally home to the South African Reserve Bank, Taj effortlessly combines the old and the luxury of the new.

This same sentiment was carried through to Bombay Brasserie; with new velvet chairs with gold legs, mixing with old traditional wooden cladding and original lift cages, a truly eclectic mix. The design was influenced through spice markets of Pune, and the array of spices and radiant colours, which has been captured in the market area through the spice unit, which is piled high with jars of oriental spices, in the shadows of the central life like Ficus tree, linking both the formal and semiformal dining areas.

The formal dining area is meant to depict an open-air atrium, creating a gathering location as in India, hence the mock archways indicate the vibrant wall colours and the national bird of India, the Peacock. Deep rich blues and warm mustard golds offer an opulent feeling under the crystal chandeliers and warm wood wall cladding, before crossing the decorative tiling into the more tropical dining area with authentic shade umbrella, with the peacock wallpaper leading you to the bell wall on the mezzanine level.
